Belarus has presented its Greenways on prestigious international conference
On the 8th-11th of July in Budapest there was held the most famous and prestigious conference on Greenways «Fabos Conference on Landscape and Greenway Planning», that united participants from 33 country from 5 continents. This conference is held once in three years under guidance of Massachusetts university, USA. USA is the home of Greenways concept. Belarusian Greenway “Blue necklace of Rossony” was presented on the conference and aroused interest of the participants. In the nearest future we expect the visit of American experts in the filed of Greenways and “green” tourists.

Unknown Latvia: best enjoyed slowly!
On the 9th-12th of July there took place study tour for the Belarusian delegation to Latvia. The participants get acquainted with the rural tourism development in the regions of Rezekne, Madona, Cesis, Sigulda, Saulkrasti, and also visited unique museum of cycling in Latvia, private Munhausen museum, Gauya national park, Urmala and Riga, took part in the opening of a new Greenway and cycling marathon in Sigulda. Latvian part is interested in cooperation in the field of rural tourism in Belarus that resulted in agreements on organization of study tours dedicated to rural tourism for farmstead owners, to cross-border routes and gastronomic tours. It is planed that representatives from Latvia will come to Belarus in order to participate in culinary festival “Motalskya prysmaki”. The organizers of this tour showed unknown rural Latvia, interesting initiatives and hospitable people, and taught to “enjoy Latvia slowly” as the new slogan of Latvia sounds.

"Dutch" cheese on Motol festival
On the 29th of July – 2d of July in the Klyasticy village (Rossony district, Vitebsk region) and in the Chvorostyany village (Slavgorod district, Mogilev region) in terms of MATRA international project “Country women and development of rural areas” there were held practical trainings dedicated to the production of Dutch cheese for country women, members of organization “Selchanka”. Farmer and cheese maker with 30 year experience Janny Benning shared her experience in cheese making with Belarusian women. Belarusian women could see with their own eyes all mysteries of production of Dutch hard cheese. It occurred that this cheese can be made on you own farm!
The women wrote done all secrets that Dutch specialist shared with them. The cheese turned out great. All they need is to mature. One will have a chance to taste this first Belarusian-Dutch cheese on the culinary festival “Motalskya prysmaki” that will be held on the 27-28th of August in the village of Motol (Ivanovo district, Brest region). We invite everybody to taste this cheese and other delicious dishes on the culinary festival “Motalskya prysmaki”!

The dates of the Motol festival are fixed!
In terms of UNDP and EU project “Sustainable development on local level” there took place a visit of experts to the village of Motol (Ivanovo district, Brest region), where there was held a training on sustainable development and Greenwasy of the area. Special attention was dedicated to the culinary festival “Motalskya prysmaki” that will be held in Motol for the third time this year. The final dates of the festival are fixed – 27-28 of August. The organizers invented lots of surprises. This year the festival will last two days, it is planned to open an exposition in the old mill, particular attention will be dedicated to the Jewish heritage of the area, old rites and of course to the culinary heritage of the region. Moreover organizers promise bright rich program, fancy-dress fashion parade, lots of foreign guests and even firework.

Once again "Zaborski fest"!
Rural tourism festival “Zaborski fest” welcomed quests for the 6th time on the 12-13th of June in the village of Zaborye, Rossony region. Festival has already become a tradition in Rossony region. This year festival had a new format. It lasted the whole week starting from the Festival of Belarusian horse on the 5-6th of June. This unusual holiday united horse-lovers from different regions of Belarus. During the week guests of the village of Zaborye could visit various routes and ecotrails, developed in the region get acquainted with tourism services, offered by the farmstead owners. The 12th and 13th of June were the main festive days. In terms of the festival there was the official opening of the Centre of sustainable development and ecotourism, created with the support from UNDP and EU project “Sustainable development on local level”. UN Resident Coordinator/UNDP Resident Representative in Belarus Mr. Antonius Broek was present on the opening of the Centre (on the photo Mr. Antonius Broek and head of disctict executive committee Shubski Alexander). Hopefully this year will be one more step in the development of the festival, and “Zaborski fest” will continue to live and welcome nature and rural tourism lovers.

Perspectives of rural tousim development in Grodno region
On the 28th of May in Grodno there was held a seminar “Agroecotourism development in Grodno region: realities, perspectives, opportunities”, that was organized by the department of physical culture, sports and tourism of the Grodno region executive committee, Public council on agroecotourism development of Grodno region, Grodno farmers’ association, Support Program for Belarus of the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany. Among the presenters on the seminar there were representatives of local administration, public councils, coordinator of the Support program, Belarusian Association “Country escape”. During the seminar there were discussed such topics as regional and international experience of rural tourism development, perspectives of rural areas development, use of public initiatives in the sphere of agroecotourism, tourism potential of Grodno region. Also there were defined strategies of districts’ development on the basis of cluster model, and experts provided their recommendations and conclusions.

The meeting of public councils on agroecotourism development
On the 21st-22nd of May on the “Pansky sad” farmstead (Mozyr district, Gomel region) there was held a training for the leaders of the Public councils on agroecotourism development, which was dedicated to the problem of organization of festivals and other festive occasions. The training was organized in the framework of a common project of the Belarusian association “Country Escape” and ECEAT-Germany “Sustainable rural tourism in Belarus: networking and support of the main players”, which was approved by the Support Program for Belarus of the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany. During the training leaders of the Public councils presented the results of their work, defined the main perspectives, received consultations from specialists, exchanged experience. Also there were defined the main topics that will be discussed on the future trainings in terms of the project. This meeting has become an important step towards consolidation and improvement of Public councils.

Belarusian rural tourism is of interest in Russia
 On the 14th of May in the Gostiny Dvor conference-hall in the frames of the International tourism fair MITF there took place the presentation of the national stand and tourism potential of Belarus.
The Chairman of the Board of the Belarusian Association “Country Escape” has presented Belarusian rural tourism. As a result of the presentation it is planned to organize a study tour on farmsteads for carious stakeholders (representatives of local administration from different regions of Russia, tour operators, mass media).

Unknown Sardinia: rural tourism on italian island
Representative of Belarusian Association “Country Escape” Natallia Borisenko became a participant of a study tour in the province of Cagliari in Sardinia. In terms of the tour the participants had a possibility to get acquainted with an interesting initiative of local tourism association. In the province of Cagliari there are developed gastronomic and ethnographic routes, which are plotted on special map available for tourists in hotels, craftsmen workshops, museums, restaurants. Moreover tourists have a possibility to buy cheaply a GPS-navigator with the map of these routes and short description of each object. In terms of this tour the group has visited two main types of objects – craftsmen workshops and production of different food products – cheese, pasta, local sweets, olive oil, etc.

Baltic states share their experience of sustainable rural tourism development
On the 6th-7th of May in Johannes Rau International Centre for Education and Exchange there was held training “Sustainable rural tourism: learning by doing”. The training was organized by the CBSS Expert Group on Sustainable Development – Baltic 21 and Belarusian Association “Country Escape”. The training was aimed at stakeholders from Ukraine and Belarus that are connected with sustainable rural tourism development (tourism administration, NGO’s, mass media, representatives of small and middle business). Experts and participants evaluated high level of rural tourism development in our country. As a result of the training there appeared lots of new project ideas, and also there were established international relations for future sustainable development of rural tourism.
